Pete Thornes Joins the Pirates Coaching Set-up
Real Bedford can confirm Pete Thornes has joined the Men's coaching set-up after a successful campaign as chief scout for The Pirates during the 2022/23 season.
Having assisted Rob Sinclair's side significantly last season, Thornes will be found in the dugout this weekend as The Pirates face AFC Rushden & Diamonds in their first pre-season friendly at McMullen Park.
Thornes has established himself as a respected coach in Bedford, having previously managed Bedford Ladies, winning multiple promotions. Since then, Thornes has spent time in and out of the game before finally landing his role as chief scout for Real Bedford last season, helping Rob Sinclair with match preparation, player recruitment and analysis.
Talking about his change in role, Thornes said:
"I've coached Rob and his brothers since he was 9, and have always followed his footballing journey, so as soon as he landed his coaching role here, I knew it was a project I would be keen to get involved in. Rather than jumping straight back into coaching, last year allowed me to work my way back into the footballing world before taking a more hands-on role this campaign."
Thornes also spoke highly of the squad Sinclair has built:
"The squad is really well-knit, I knew a fair amount before I joined the club, but I've enjoyed getting to know them all much better."
On adding Pete Thornes to the coaching set-up, Rob Sinclair noted:
"Pete worked really hard for us behind the scenes last season, so I'm delighted he is joining our coaching set-up on a more hands-on basis this season. His man-management skills and knowledge of the game are exactly what we need for this season. He's a great man to have around the club and will be a massive help in our push for promotion again this campaign."
Chairman Peter McCormack said:
"The additions Rob is making to his backroom staff alongside player recruitment reflect the ambition of this club."
Alongside Thornes' expanded role at Real Bedford, Rob Sinclair has appointed Mike Nolan as chief scout for The Pirates. We wish Pete and Mike all the best in their roles at McMullen Park.
