Club Statement: Farewell to Tom Wood
Real Bedford Football Club wishes to extend its deepest gratitude as we announce the departure of Tom Wood. Tom joined us for our inaugural 22/23 campaign, where he played a pivotal role in helping the team secure a league and cup double. His contributions on the pitch were instrumental in setting the foundation for our club’s early success.
Amid many changes in the 23/24 season, Tom remained a stalwart in defence, embodying the club's ambition of winning back-to-back promotions. Once again, his exceptional performances were key as the club achieved another league and cup double.
In his time with Real Bedford, Tom made 86 competitive appearances and scored 10 goals, an outstanding return for a defender.
But Tom has been more than just a great player; he has been a tremendous personality within the club. His presence will be sorely missed in the dressing room and the clubhouse, where his positive attitude and sense of humor always brought a smile to those around him.
Manager Rob Sinclair shared his thoughts on Tom's departure:
“I’d personally like to thank Tom for the past 2 years. Firstly, he is a great person, always making people laugh around the football club with his bubbly personality. Over the past 2 years, Tom has been a mainstay in the team and helped achieve back-to-back promotions with some superb performances. I wish Tom and his family well in whatever he decides to do next.”
Chairman Peter McCormack also offered his appreciation:
“I don't often comment on player departures, but I must with Tom Wood. He has been such an important part of the Real Bedford project, helping us win back-to-back promotions, for this I will be eternally grateful.”
Everyone at Real Bedford would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Tom Wood for his commitment, hard work, and spirit over the past two years. He leaves with our deepest gratitude and best wishes for whatever lies ahead.
